UNM head Melia: The aim of our hunger strike is to wake up international community

In his Facebook post, UNM Chairman Nika Melia focused on reasons pushing UNM members and their supporters to declare a mass hunger strike.

Melia stressed that irrespective of his political activities, Saakashvili is a political prisoner today, and the regime which takes the country's third president hostage will stop at nothing and arrest anyone.

The UNM head also emphasized in his post that if they knew the unbiased court would have the final say in the ongoing processes, they would not refer to the radical form of protest.

According to Melia, they do not think that anyone will feel sorry for hunger-striking citizens. ''We do not expect 'Bidzina to express sympathy.' The aim of our hunger strike is to wake up the international community and shake our public awake,'' the UNM leader said, adding 'Are there no other tools? Of course, there are, and we have never banned anyone from using them. Choose your own tool, and we will support you.''

UNM leaders and their supporters went on a hunger strike outside the UNM office, demanding ex-pres. Saakashvili's release.
