US Embassy: The United States stands by Georgia

Ninety-nine years passed after the Soviet occupation of Georgia began. The U.S. Embassy in Georgia released the statement on its Facebook page. According to the Embassy U.S. stands with Georgia in support of its hard-fought sovereignty and territorial integrity. The Embassy used words of Georgian writer Mikheil Javakhishvili.

The great Georgian writer Mikheil Javakhishvili described what it was like to live in that time: "I felt the sharp sword through my body on February 25, which is getting sharper ever since. Now I have a blade in my heart, and if I move, I will die not able to make a sound," the Embassy said in a statement.

The Russian Red Army conquered Tbilisi and overthrew the government elected through universal and free elections on February 25, 1921, annexing the Democratic Republic of Georgia.
