It is important to me to see Georgia as a state rather than a chessman on a chessboard, German MEP Viola von Cramon declared at the annual Democracy Conference held via zoom.
"I will never forget that when I took up my duties of the head of the Germany-South Caucasus parliamentary group under the German Bundestag, I noticed that lots of my colleagues viewed Georgia and the entire region as a territory controlled by Russia. Against this backdrop, we had to act cautiously, oppose some people, formulate messages carefully since as Russia would use our failure to do so for its own benefit. These words apply not only to Georgia but also to its neighbors," Viola von Cramon said, adding that Georgia, as a separate state, is a critical actor against Russia.
