Voting on the proportional system delayed

The Parliament of Georgia postponed voting on the proportional electoral system. According to Archil Talakvadze, deputies will vote on the constitutional amendments tomorrow.

Archil Talakvadze, the Chairman of the Parliament, Mamuka Mdinaradze, the Chairman of the Georgian Dream, Gia Volski, the leader of the Majority, Roman Gotsiridze, the leader of the National Movement, Vice Speakers Irma Inashvili and Sergi Kapanadze held a briefing.

"We offer to postpone voting because within the Majority people still have different opinions and I think it would be a wise decision not to put the voting at risk", Talakvadze said after the meeting.

The Majority meeting was held at the office of the Georgian Dream. The meeting was led by the chairman of the party Bidzina Ivanishvili, who is the author of the constitutional amendments initiated by the ruling party.

The Majority meeting was set after some of the Georgian Dream deputies stated that they would not support a proportional system.

The draft constitutional project prepared by the opposition was dropped by the Parliament yesterday.
