On 17 July 2020, Georgian Foreign Minister Davit Zalkaliani spoke to the newly appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bairamov -- congratulated him on his appointment and wished him a successful career. The top officials showed their readiness to strengthen ties, develop a closer friendship and strategic partnership.
Davit Zalkaliani focused his attention on rising tensions at the Azerbaijan-Armenia border and expressed hope that by employing international mechanisms, tensions will be diffused and negotiations resumed. However, the Azerbaijani Minister stated that at this point, he cannot formulate an initiation helping them to find a peaceful solution to the ongoing conflict.
