Scientists at the University of Southampton have developed a needle-free coronavirus vaccine that could protect against existing and future variants of COVID-19, the BBC writes.

The publication notes that the vaccine enters the body without a needle with an air cannon.

"It's important to note that this is the first step in developing a universal coronavirus vaccine that protects us not only from Covid-19 variants but also from future coronaviruses," said Jonathan Henny, a professor at the University of Cambridge.

At the moment, DIOSvax testing is underway at the University of Southampton.

According to the publication, the vaccine uses different technology to fight the disease, which aims to determine in advance how the virus can mutate.
