282,730 have been planted in the Borjomi gorge in a year. In 2008-2017, a fire ravaged 943 ha of the Borjomi forest. Soil and geological survey of the area resulted in drafting of a project aiming at the forest restoration. The multi-stage project comprises implementation of forest restoration works and taking care of planted trees. Within the first stage, in Autumn 2018 and Spring 2019, 282,730 trees were planted on 144 ha land; 73 000 trees are set to be planted in Spring 2019, with the third stage starting in 2020, when 105 ha forest is planned to be restored.
In maintenance and restoration of Borjomi forests, locals are also actively involved, along with the specialists.
