Under the aegis of the US, after undergoing two-week training, the Defense Forces of Georgia have been equipped with the M249 light machine gun, which fires 5.56×45mm NATO cartridge, according to the Defense Ministry of Georgia.
The state agency says that American instructors have held special military training for Georgian soldiers. They have provided soldiers with necessary information on the machine gun and taught them how to use it. The machine gun increases the effectiveness of military operations and is part of the process of adjusting Georgia's military capability to that of the partner countries.
