Amiran Gamkrelidze, the Head of the Disease Control Center and Public health, sums up 2021.

Gamkrelidze, whose statement is released by the NCDC, addresses his colleagues first and foremost, noting that the past 12 months have been full of challenges and difficulties.

In the letter, he once again expresses his condolences and sympathy to the families of the dead colleagues.

At the same time, Gamkrelidze hopes that in the new, 2022, there will be many breakthroughs in medicine that will end the pandemic.

Amiran Gamkrelidze once again calls on the population to vaccinate and says that the way to end the pandemic is through immunization.

"The reality is that the world meets next year with a pandemic regime again. Possible new strains of COVID-19 pose a threat to the health of the population. Patients have even more limited access to medical services, including those with chronic diseases such as HIV, tuberculosis, and cancer. Many challenges remain in the field of economics, including the education sector. However, the country is constantly trying to respond properly to the existing challenges. Our center, despite the busy year, is still ready to continue its activities as usual. Together we must vaccinate many more people in 2022 to comply with the recommendations of the World Health Organization because the main way to end the pandemic is through immunization.

Happy New Year and Merry Christmas! With deep respect and best wishes for the New Year," Amiran Gamkrelidze stated.
