According to Amiran Gamkrelidze, the head of the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health, the increase in confirmed cases of coronavirus today is due to the expansion of testing.
As Gamkrelidze explained, with the expansion of research in the coming days, the number of infected will increase even more.
"More cases are being revealed. According to today's data, if we revealed about 700 to 800 positive cases with antigen test daily, this number is now at 1 442 - detected only by antigen and 3 600 by PCR test. The increase is related to the expansion of testing, and we will have even more in the coming days. We have said this before; these tests reveal earlier stages of infection and relatively light or asymptomatic people, whose rapid isolation will give us better results," Gamkrelidze said.
5 068 new patients tested positive for coronavirus in Georgia, while 2 336 patients defeated the virus.
According to stopcov.ge, 152 704 people have COVID-19 in the country, of which 126 904 already recovered.
1 425 people died due to the virus in Georgia, 38 of them during the last 24 hours.
