According to Amiran Gamkrelidze, the director of the National Center for Disease Control, Georgia is expecting more than 3 million doses of the vaccine in the coming months and will start mass vaccination.
He said the number of detachment brigades should be increased from 250 to 400. Large spaces will be arranged in four cities: Tbilisi, Rustavi, Batumi, and Kutaisi.
"We have confirmation that the country will receive more than 3 million 200 thousand vaccines from July to October. That is, we can start a so-called mass vaccination. I have often told you that we will begin mass vaccination when we have at least half a million vaccine doses in stock.
I have already had meetings in the regions, I have been to almost all regions, and I will have more; we are working to be more prepared. Today we discussed what levers should be used to get all the institutions, the 250 brigades, to work, of course with their replacement brigades, because people need to rest. We have to go up to 400 brigades by the end of this month.
Also, in 4 big cities - Tbilisi, Batumi, Kutaisi, and Rustavi, have to establish large spaces. At least 4 in Tbilisi, one in each city.
We are not talking about the tents; there is nothing to hide; we work with Expo-Georgia, as well as with Hualing, several sports establishments, and shopping malls to use their spaces. Vaccination centers should be open and the vaccine available to everyone from July," Gamkrelidze said.
