"We need to work together to strengthen the ties between the Georgian diaspora and Georgia," the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia said at a conference of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
In his speech, Talakvadze spoke about the special role of the diaspora in the development of the country's cultural, economic, scientific, and educational spheres.
"Our compatriots are teaching their children in Georgian, hosting as Georgians, and praying in Georgian churches and monasteries. We understand the importance of these ties," Archil Talakvadze said.
Talakvadze noted that the Georgian state had committed itself to maintain and develop ties with its compatriots living abroad, and the care about diaspora has become a constitutional function.
Archil Talakvadze also emphasized that the ongoing work of diaspora organizations can make a significant contribution to Georgia's European integration process.
