24-year-old Shako Baramidze, who died in a car accident in Samtredia, was buried without funeral services.
The reason is the membership of so-called Biblical Freedom, the religious organization founded by the Girchi Party, which issues a priesthood certificate to anyone. This way, young people are exempt from compulsory military service.
Girchi canceled the certificate of Shako Baramidze but the church refused to carry out funeral services.
Metropolitan Saba of Khoni and Samtredia said that the case could be discussed at the Holy Synod meeting but it is yet unknown when the session will be held.
