The election for the post of the Chancellor of the Georgian Technical University is underway. The only candidate for the position is the deputy of Parliament of Georgia Carlo Kopaliani.

Kopaliani, a member of the parliamentary majority, said that if elected, he would drop his legislative mandate. Kopaliani thinks that the two positions named above are incompatible.

"Georgian Technical University is my native university; I teach there, I am a professor, and I decided to run for Chancellor. I've been a deputy for 12 years, and I think that's enough. Others will come and take my place, younger ones. Nothing special is happening. I was in opposition, I was in government, I have never betrayed my principles and country, and will now move to the academic field," Carlo Kopaliani said.

There were three candidates initially registered for the Chancellor's post, but two of them withdrew.

Voting will end at 17:00.
