Child car seats may become obligatory, with the corresponding initiative having been submitted with the Parliament by independent deputies Eka Beselia and Zviad Kvachantiradze.

According to the draft bill, in driving a child under 12 and shorter than 135 cm, a driver must use a special baby stroller, seat or holding device compatible with the child’s height and weight.

The regulations do not apply to public transport.

According to the initiators, the amendments are in full compliance with the EU legislation. In drafting the project, the EU countries' experience and regulations were studied. Field experts and NGOs were also involved in drafting the bill.

As the eight-month data of the current year has it, 579 teenagers under 16 have been injured at 14 died. The detailed statistical data are available here
