Dexamethasone has reduced mortality in severely ill coronavirus patients: Tsertsvadze

Dexamethasone has reduced mortality in severely ill coronavirus patients by 1/3, according to Tengiz Tsertsvadze, Director of the Tbilisi Infectious Diseases Hospital. In his words, others are antiviral medicines, while dexamethasone is an entirely different type of medicine: antiviral drugs are subscribed to patients who do not show severe symptoms, while dexamethasone reduces inflammation and are given to the critically ill.

"Dexamethasone and antiviral drugs are of completely different types of medicines, which is why they may not be compared. We now have just three critical patients, and they are taking dexamethasone at this moment," Tsertsvadze said.
