On 26 May, the day marking the 103rd anniversary of the proclamation of Georgia's independence, the flag of Georgia was unfurled in the center of Vilnius, Lithuania’s capital. The Embassy of Lithuania in Georgia says.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Lithuania Levan Ghvachliani addressed guests attending the event.

The ambassador expanded on the significance of the formation of Georgia's first democratic republic and the Georgian people's ceaseless pursuit of freedom and independence. He also focused on challenges the country has had to cope with and difficulties to overcome after the restoration of its independence. In the ambassador's words, despite the ongoing occupation, Georgia managed to pass democratic reforms, strengthen ties with the EU and move forward on the path to NATO.

Mr. Ghvanchliani also made reference to the exemplary friendship bonds between Georgia and Lithuania and thanked the country's leaders for supporting Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity within its universally recognized borders.

Within the event, they organized an outdoor photography exhibition relating to the developments of 9 April 1989, the referendum of 1991, and the restoration of Georgia's independence.

T-shirts with Georgian flags were also distributed to Georgian and Lithuanian young people participating in the event.

At the end of the event, event participants released balloons in the national flag colors in the air.
