As a result of heavy rain, up to ten streets got flooded in Batumi. Heavy rainfall in the so-called Chaobi settlement damaged numerous private and commercial areas. The first floors of the houses are flooded.
The water reached the underground floor of the Republican Hospital, where medical equipment is placed.
"As a result of the disaster, certain types of problems have been created in certain areas of the city. The units of "Batumi Tskali" Ltd are mobilized, the cleaning works of the canals passing into the sea are being carried out with special equipment, at the same time we are carrying out pumping works at different locations. At the moment, the ground floor of the Republican Hospital is flooded, and we are pumping it out," said Levan Davitadze, director of Batumi Water Ltd.
Due to heavy rainfall, Batumi Airport could not receive an international flight, and the flight was diverted to Tbilisi.
The intensity of precipitation in Batumi has decreased, and traffic in the city has resumed.
Batumi City Hall says that rehabilitation works have started, after which the city will not face similar problems.
