Gamkrelidze says Georgia switches to universal virus transmission from cluster spread

“We switched from the so-called cluster transmission of coronavirus to general spread. There were about 20 clusters. Now, an increase in the number of new infections in all regions has started,” Amiran Gamkrelidze, head of the National Center for Disease Control, said.

In his words, Georgia’s epidemiological situation has deteriorated.

“Unfortunately, we have no signs of containing the virus yet. Again, the country does not comply with regulations and recommendations, which is the leading risk factor for further deterioration of the epidemiological situation. We expect that a certain peak period will be at the end of April - the first half of May,” Gamkrelidze claimed, adding that the third wave of coronavirus has indeed begun in the country.
