NCDC Head Amiran Gamkrelidze appeals to the public to avoid different household mixing and opt for a few family members' get-togethers. 

"We cannot continue with Christmas as we are used to. We should stay at home and avoid social visits for now, as this helps the disease transmission. I urge you to avoid social situations for a week to save lives and prevent the spread of the virus. Restrictions will remain in the future but in different forms," Gamkrelidze told Formula TV. 

Georgia recorded 3,064 cases in the last 24 hours to bring the total tally to 212,526. A total of 3,740 people recovered in a single day, with the number reaching 188,408. 

The country's death toll now stands at 2,182 (42 recent deaths).

Georgia confirmed its first COVID-19 case on 26 February 2020. The WHO labeled the novel virus a pandemic on 11 March 2020, with its outbreak starting in China in December of 2019. On 21 January, China confirmed that the new coronavirus is contagious and declared quarantine in its two cities.
