Georgia has a higher number of hospital beds than it now needs, Ekaterine Adamia, the head of Public Healthcare and Programs Division of Healthcare Department said at the briefing in the ministry.

In Adamia's words, Georgia has 44 medical institutions, with around 3,700 beds for coronavirus patients. Out of the said 44 medical facilities and institutions, 18 clinics, with their 1987 beds, are located in Tbilisi, 11 in Ajara (731 beds), 10 in Imereti (644 beds), two clinics in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti (190 beds), one in Shida Kartli (164 beds), one in Mtskheta-Mtianeti (111 beds) and one in Guria (21 beds).

Ekaterine Adamia also emphasized that the country has 2,453 respiratory devices and trained medical personnel, with more than 3,900 doctors, 2,300 nurses and sanitation workers. Personnel at more than 2,044 primary healthcare facilities have been trained in the country, and 20 COVID hotels, with more than 1200 patients now treated there, opened. 

Adamia also added that out of Georgia's total hospital bed capacity, which stands at 17,400, intensive care units at hospitals are equipped with 2,290. A total of 17,990 doctors serve citizens across the country, out of who around 500 are infectious disease specialists, more than 1,400 intensive care physicians, and 14,800 nurses.
