Georgia marks Svetitskhovloba today

Today, Georgia's Orthodox Christians are celebrating Svetitskhovloba, which commemorates the country's ancient capital city and its historic church, Svetitskhoveli Cathedral.

According to the Patriarchate of Georgia, free buses to Mtskheta in the vicinity of the patriarchate will be available from 8 a.m., and the festive liturgy in the Svetitskhoveli cathedral will start at 10 a.m.

Svetitskhovloba in Georgia, also known as Mtskhetoba, takes place in Mtskheta, one of the oldest cities in Georgia and its former capital. Records about the festival date back to the 4th century.

Svetitskhovloba is celebrated twice a year, on 14 October and 13 July.
