Deputy Head of the NCDC of Georgia Paata Imnadze has denied reports saying that India's coronavirus strain has spread in Georgia.

''Indian coronavirus variant has not yet been confirmed in our country, and I have no clue how this information started circulating. If it were confirmed, I would have definitely known,'' he said, adding that the Sinopharm and Sinovac vaccines are effective against the new strain from India.

According to Imnadze, the only difference from the typical coronavirus is that the Indian variant is more contagious.

First Deputy Chairman of the Healthcare Committee of the Parliament Lado Kakhadze said earlier that Georgia has registered several cases of India's new coronavirus variant; however, neither NCDC head Amiran Gamkrelidze nor Deputy health Minister Tamar Gabunia confirmed the information.
