The company-sized unit of the 4th Mechanized Brigade of the Georgian Defense Forces has left for Germany to prepare for the NATO-led Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan.

The MIA says that Eastern Command Colonel and Brigadier General Roland Dzneladze accompanied the Georgian peacekeepers to the airport.

Service members of the 4th Mechanized Brigade will undergo a five-month training before deployed in Afghanistan.

Both Georgian platoons and company-sized units in Germany will be involved in military training.

Georgian peacekeepers will perform their seven-month peacekeeping mission in Mazar-i-Sharif military base Camp Marmal. The main task of the unit will be rapid response-related issues and patrolling the region.
