Georgian writers and editors issue statement on Georgia's recent developments

Part of Georgian writers and editors address the international society, diplomatic missions accredited in Georgia, international organizations, foreign colleagues, and friends of Georgia.

Writers and editors have passed criticism on the government for UNM leader Nika Melia's arrest.

"The acting Georgian government is standing on the path of dictatorship, and after the usurpation of the state institutions, it has started persecution and incarceration of its political opponents. We strongly believe that similar processes such as hampering Georgia's democratic development and making it veer off the path to the West play into the Russian government's hands, and they are also involved in this process. We, the Georgian writers and editors, are asking our friends and supporters to see the threat we face today and express solidarity by backing us in our fair fight for the protection of our freedom and independence," the statement reads.
