Prime Minister of Georgia, Giorgi Gakharia, has lit the first candle in the Big Synagogue of Tbilisi. He congratulated the Jewish people and wished them peace.

“When Nebuchadnezzar sieged Jerusalem, then Jewish people came to Georgia for the first time. We count the ages of co-existence. We have common sorrows and common happiness. It is the biggest power, unknown for many nations – not a single Jewish family has been discriminated in Georgia. It is not the merit and the victory only of Georgian people but our common victory. Let me congratulate each Jew with the Holiday, and each of us with the future ages of labor, victory, and achievement, congratulate each Jewish family with the victory of the light over the darkness, and the kindness over the evil. Congratulate you and wish peace top Israel and to Georgia”, - said Giorgi Gakgaria

The Prime Minister mentioned that under the initiative of Israeli Ambassador to Georgia, Shaftai Tsuria, the Georgia Cultural Center had been opened in Jerusalem.

The Chairman of Georgian Parliament and Tbilisi Mayor attended the Hanukkah celebration in the Big Synagogue of Tbilisi.
