A memorandum of understanding between Georgia and the United Kingdom got signed. According to the document, Georgian sailors will have the right to be employed in one of the highest-paid, safest and strongest fleets, where the labor rights of sailors are fully protected.
"One of the best employment markets in the world opened for crowding companies and Georgian sailors. With this recognition, places like Cayman, the Isle of Man, Gibraltar, and other dependent British territories will become available now. I think this is an important achievement for the Georgian maritime sector internationally," Tamar Ioseliani, the head of the Maritime Transport Agency of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, stated.
The United Kingdom's merchant fleet is ranked 18th largest in the world (Deadweight tonnage basis), under which more than 1300 ships sail.
