Guga Kashibadze: A 3-year-old child got injured by pyrotechnics

According to Guga Kashibadze, the head of the Burn Center of the Khechinashvili University Clinic, about 40 patients applied to the Center with injuries received due to pyrotechnics on New Year's Day.

Kashibadze noted that four patients needed to be placed in the clinic, three of them children.

According to him, pyrotechnics do not only cause burns but also wounds and fractures.

"Three children got admitted at the Center. They spent several days in the clinic. They had damaged the fingers of the right thumb and facial area. Today we are operating on one patient who received injuries as a result of a fire caused by pyrotechnics," said Kashibadze.

He said pyrotechnics should not be available to children. According to the doctor, the youngest patient is a 3-year-old child injured by pyrotechnics fired by someone else.

"If the pyrotechnics are misused, we can cause serious damage to ourselves and our family members. The youngest patient we had was a 3-year-old boy who was injured while standing on the balcony. The age of children mostly ranged from 8 to 14. The oldest patient who was injured by pyrotechnics was a 70-year-old woman," said Kashibadze.
