The head of the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health said there was no solid medical evidence about the effectiveness of vaccine mixing. As he said at a briefing at the government administration, changing the vaccine during the second dose is recommended if the patient has an allergic reaction to the first dose.
He also clarified the need for the third dose of the vaccine, the so-called booster.
"So far, the international scientific community has agreed that when you start the first injection with one vaccine, the second vaccine should be given with the same vaccine, unless there is a particular side effect on the first injection. If there were a specific side effect, the doctor would decide whether to change the vaccine or not. Numerous studies are underway regarding vaccine replacement.
As for the third dose of the vaccine, or so-called "booster," the issue is actively discussed. The international scientific community has not yet agreed on how long the so-called artificial immunity will last. The majority decided that it will last for 6-8 months," said Amiran Gamkrelidze.
