Intensive testing for coronavirus to begin in Georgia today

An intensive testing program against coronavirus starts across the country today. The state will conduct up to 24 thousand tests daily until the first of February.

Patients with symptoms will be tested in the first place. The citizen will know the answer within 20 minutes after the test. Private clinics and laboratories will also benefit from the rapid antigen-based test.

As part of the intensive testing program, the family doctor will assess the patient's condition and, if necessary, schedule testing.

According to Berdia Sichinava, the Deputy Chief of the Operational Staff at the Interagency Coordination Council, tests conducted by the state within the program's framework will be added by tests conducted in private clinics and laboratories.

"The purpose behind this is, on the one hand, the quick detection of cases of infection, which means an immediate transition to self-isolation of less severe cases, transfer of mild cases to COVID hotels, and hospitalization of severe and critical cases," Sichinava explained.
