"I express my grief over the death of the prominent Georgian athlete Viktor Saneyev.
Viktor Saneyev, with his many years of selfless love of his work, made our country famous all over the world.
Because of the merit of his unwavering spirit, he became a three-time Olympic champion and a silver medalist, a multiple winner of international championships, numerous cups, awards, and prizes, and the best athlete of the XX century in Georgia - a gold prize-winner.
I share the grief and sympathy of Viktor Saneyevs family, relatives, and friends with the Georgian sports community," the statement reads.
Legendary athlete Viktor Saneyev has died at the age of 76. By family decision, he will be buried in Sydney.
