Ivane Chkhaidze, the head of the National Technical Group for Immunization Advisors, thinks that Georgia should vaccinate children with the coronavirus vaccine by 2022 because, according to him, the number of infected children in the country is quite large.
Ivane Chkhaidze cites the example of Canada and the United States.
He said the cases of infected children during the second and third waves increased in Georgia.
"The epidemiological situation in the country remains complex. In terms of children, the situation repeats the rate we have in adults. According to our statistics, the share of children in the total number of infected people in Georgia is 9.5-10%. If we count from February 26, 2020, there were approximately 35,000 children infected with coronavirus during this entire period.
There is hope and expectation that once the vaccination process is completed in the country, by 2022, it is possible to think about the vaccination of children," said Ivane Chkhaidze.
