Athlete, teacher, and honorary president of the Georgian National Olympic Committee, Jano Bagrationi, died at the age of 83.

Jano Bagrationi was an honorary citizen of Tbilisi, had received the Order of the International Olympic Committee; Was a Knight of the Order of Honor, Honored Coach of Georgia, Knight of the Order of the Georgian Olympic Committee, Knight of the Order of Vakhtan Gorgasali.

Jano Bagrationi graduated from the Georgian Technical University; Also, Georgian State Institute of Physical Culture.

Bagrationi was a handball player, coach, and played in Tbilisi "Burevestnik"; In 1973-1984, he worked as the Head of the Department of Physical Education at the Georgian Technical University; He was the Chairperson of the Tbilisi Sports Committee in 1984-1987; 1987-1991 the Deputy Chairperson of the State Sports Committee of Georgia; In 1991-1993 he held the position of the Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Sport and Tourism of Georgia; In 1993-1996 the Deputy Chairperson of the Sports Committee of Georgia; In 1996-1998 the First Deputy Chairperson of the State Department of Sports of Georgia; In 1999-2004 he was a member of the Parliament of Georgia of the 5th convocation; and since 2004 an Honorary President of the Georgian National Olympic Committee. Jano Bagrationi has published 18 scientific methodological works and one monograph.
