Kutaisi International University (KIU) opened. The President Salome Zurabishvili, the Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia, the Chairperson of the Parliament of Georgia Archil Talakvadze, the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Mikheil Chkhenkeli, as well as Honorary President of Kutaisi International University, Professor Wolfgang Herrmann and Rector of the University, Professor Alexandre Tevzadze, addressed the students and the citizens gathered at the ceremony.

The government and parliament members, representatives of the diplomatic corps, and international organizations attended the event.

The freshmen's oath-taking ceremony took place at the University, with several freshmen taking the oath at the event.

This year, Kutaisi International University (KIU) admitted the first students to three undergraduate English language programs: Management, Mathematics, and Computer Science.

According to the Ministry of Education, the criteria for admitting students to the KIU is one of the highest in Georgia today and is in line with the Technical University of Munich program's requirements. According to STEM direction programs, KIU is among the three universities with the highest barrier in Georgia. This year, 1 112 entrants expressed a desire to become a KIU student, but only 245 of them overcame the University's high bar.

According to the ranking, the most popular is KIU Computer Science Program. The largest number of students enrolled in this program this year. Then comes the management and, finally, math. Thirty-five percent of students enrolled in the math program are girls. One of the priorities of the University is to increase the involvement of women in the field of exact and natural sciences.

KIU includes student and staff accommodation, academic buildings, library, cafes, indoor and outdoor recreational areas, electric transport, bicycle lanes. The University will receive the first stream in three specialties - Mathematics, Computer Science, and Management, and in the future, the number of specialties will increase.

In addition, Kutaisi International University students will have the opportunity to complete certain projects at the Julich Research Centre.
