Marneuli Ex-Mayor: It was beer rather than urine

Former Mayor of Marneuli has responded to his not-guilty verdict rendered by the Rustavi City Court. Temur Abazov says that the citizen himself declared at the court hearing that he had smeared his face with beer rather than urine. In Abazov's words, while in office, he refused to employ the man in the video footage, which is why he may have held a grudge and may have spread the fake video.

"He asked me the job; he knew neither the language nor held a diploma. There was a competition for the position. I refused to hire him, and he was hurt by the refusal. Possibly, someone used his grudge, and they just faked the video. I do not have a clue who he was with, or who made him do this, or not made him do this. I am innocent. I am a victim together with my underage children," Temur Abazov declared.

The Ex-Mayor also talked about Bidzina Ivanishvili and his acquaintanceship with him.

"Relating each and every incident to Bidzina Ivanishvili is unacceptable. I understand that if Ivanishvili's name is not aired, the effect is lost, but punishing a person only because everyone knows him is inadmissible.

This man himself said that he had smeared his face with beer. The next day, he was precisely in the territory where the witnesses said. There was no sample of urine on his face. My voice also did not coincide with that in the video. There were no my fingerprints either; no one confirms I was there. How can an innocent man be punished after this? The judge handed down a fair verdict, and I hail this," Abazov said.

Video footage showing a man forced to smear his face with his own urine was spread on social media. Mr. Abazov was charged with subjecting the man to inhumane treatment.
