“No fatalities occurred during the restraining order activation in 2018-2019,” Nino Tsatsiashvili, the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, announced in her report on domestic violence.

According to the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, in 2019, law enforcers issued 10266 restraining orders for victims of domestic violence, which is 34% more than in 2018. (The number of restraining orders issued in 2018 for domestic violence is 7646).

Nino Tsatsiashvili stated that with the initiative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, to prevent violence, the responsibility for violating the restraining order was tightened, and criminal liability was imposed instead of administrative. A mechanism for the assessment of violence risk and a restraining order monitoring activated, making the restraining order a real tool for victim protection.
