Ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili's lawyer and Director-General of Mtavari Arkhi (Main Channel), Nika Gvaramia, demands that he be allowed to meet Patriarch of Georgia Ilia II.
In Gvaramia's words, Mikheil Saakashvili's health worsened considerably after 35 days of a hunger strike.
Gvaramia stressed that the patriarchate's position is paramount for them, which is why he wants to meet the patriarch personally as he cannot trust any mediators.
''This is the request for the patriarch. Our years-long relations make it possible for me and the patriarch to meet at his earliest convenience,'' Nika Gvaramia said.
Mikheil Saakashvili, who was detained on Oct 1, has been on a hunger strike for 35 days now.
