Minister: Georgia will be one of the first to receive coronavirus vaccine

"As soon as it becomes available, Georgia will be one of the first to receive the coronavirus vaccine," the Minister Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labour, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia, Ekaterine Tikaradze, said at a briefing after the meeting of the Interagency Council.

"We have been actively involved in the process since it was announced. As of today, we are additionally mobilizing all the infrastructure needed for the transportation of the already purchased vaccine and, consequently, for its distribution throughout Georgia," Tikaradze said.

According to her, it has not been decided which groups will be the first to receive the vaccine.

"International negotiations are underway regarding the groups, and they are discussing who should be vaccinated in the first place. There is some disagreement here. So far, the medical world has not agreed on this. However, no matter how surprising it may sound, it is possible that, first of all, the groups that are the disseminators will be vaccinated first, because scientists see the biggest risk here," Tikaradze said.
