Minister: The health care system is ready to deal with the new strain and challenges

Health Minister Zurab Azarashvili says the system is ready to deal with any challenge, including a new strain of coronavirus.

As he noted, the course of "omicron" in patients is mild, and despite the increase in cases, the hospitalization rate did not increase while mortality decreased.

"Up to 1 000 cases of omicron have been laboratory confirmed. On the positive side, it can be said that omicron is quite a light form of infection. Due to the increased infections, we have not significantly increased the number of hospitalizations. Also, the number of deaths has been reduced. If the number of Omicron cases increases significantly, the healthcare system is fully mobilized and ready to face any challenge. We have medicines on the spot, with which we treat the infected with covid at different stages. Also, we have ordered, and in a few weeks, we will have medicines for Pfizer and Merck production, which will be quite effective," said Zurab Azarashvili.
