The Parliament approved the amendments to the Law of Georgia on the Rules of Departure and Entry of Georgian Citizens into Georgia in the third reading.

According to the draft law, a citizen will not have the right to leave Georgia if he/she is wanted by law enforcement agencies or submits forged or invalid documents.

A citizen who travels to a Schengen Area with which Georgia has a visa-free travel regime and does not have the necessary documents and does not meet the conditions for entry into the Schengen Area may be refused to cross the Georgian state border. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia sets the relevant requirements.

According to the amendments, by January 1, 2021, the Minister of Internal Affairs must establish the terms mentioned above and conditions, as well as the terms and conditions for refusing to appeal against the refusal to cross the state border.

The law, except for Article 1, will enter into force upon publication, and Article 1 will enter into force on January 1, 2021.
