State Representative in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, Malkhaz Toria, said that 42 nursery schools and 37 schools had been closed in the region as part of measures aimed to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Together with the mayors of the region and assembly chairpersons, Mr. Toria focused on the existing coronavirus-related situation in the region, the easter restrictions, and the vaccination process.

At the remote meeting, the state representative stressed that 1,205 residents of the region are now infected and 279 subjected to treatment in the region's four COVID clinics.

Easter under the pandemic has brought more restrictions in Georgia, with this implying that mobility restrictions will be in place from 23:00 p.m., May 1 to 04:00, May 2. Roads to cemeteries are also set to be closed, and church liturgy to be held under strict control of coronavirus rules.

Additionally, the government has declared 4-11 May non-working days to reduce social mobility. Plus, following the decision by the Coordination Council, traffic restrictions will also be introduced in the country on 3-12 May.
