Public Defender Nino Lomjaria responds to the attack on Formula TV host Vakho Sanaia on Facebook and says that the state's response to this type of action should be strict.
According to the Ombudsman, the profession of a journalist and his independence is the most important sign of the state's democracy.
Lomjaria states that there should be a free opportunity to disseminate information in the country, regardless of its content.
"The attack on journalist Vakho Sanaia is extremely worrying.
If a journalist is attacked for his or her activities, these criminal acts require an adequate and rigorous response to prevent similar incidents in the future," the ombudsman wrote.
Journalist Vakho Sanaia and his wife's relative were attacked. Three people have been arrested on charges of gang violence against two or more persons.
