Opera singer Paata Burchuladze: How may this even enter one's head?

Opera singer Paata Burchuladze has responded to today's developments in the Africa settlement Tbilisi on social media.

"What legitimacy are they talking about? Squatters and families have been unlawfully occupying the living space owned by the charity foundation "Iavnana" for 14 years, and despite investors repeatedly requesting to lawfully evict them, we have been terminating the project not to leave the poor without a roof over their heads. How may this even enter one's head? Instead of the government and the public helping these people together, they are kicking them out of their houses in the streets amidst the pandemic and wishing a Happy New Year to them in this manner? Tbilisi streets will be illuminated for the New Year, right, with this compensating for what they are doing now?" Burchuladze wrote.

The Tbilisi City Hall Municipal Department started dismantling some illegally constructed buildings in the Africa settlement, Tbilisi today. This triggered backlash, with several people being detained.

Mayor Kakha Kaladze responded to the developments in the settlement, saying that only those structures and facilities which are now being built there will be dismantled.
