According to the Penitentiary Service, the convicts in the penitentiary institutions traditionally met Christmas with a liturgy.
"On the occasion of the Nativity of the Savior, a solemn service was held in all operating temples and chapels on the territory of the Special Penitentiary Service in compliance with the regulations.
On the occasion of Christmas, the convicts, as in previous years, joined the initiative of the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II, and lit candles in the windows of their cells at 12:00," the statement said.
