Ukrainian ombudsman Lyudmyla Denisova responds to the fact that Mikheil Saakashvili was transferred from Gori Hospital to Rustavi 12th Penitentiary and writes that she is outraged.

She said that taking Saakashvili to prison in such a difficult situation is a serious violation of international standards and is an impressive cynicism. She calls on the Public Defender of Georgia to visit Mikheil Saakashvili and asks the Ambassador of Ukraine to provide consular assistance.

"Transferring Mikheil Saakashvili to a penitentiary institution in such a state is a violation of Article 22 of the Minimum Standard Rules of Conduct for Prisoners, which requires the transfer of sick prisoners to special institutions or civilian hospitals. Failure to provide medical assistance is contrary to the norms guaranteed by Article 3 of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Rights. Such actions of the Georgian authorities are assessed as torture and violation of the right to life of Ukrainian citizen Mikheil Saakashvili.

I call on foreign states and international organizations to condemn the actions of Georgian officials who violate the rights of Mikheil Saakashvili, a citizen of Ukraine, and demand that the Georgian authorities restore his rights," Denisova writes on Facebook.
