The Georgian Parliament may extend the law on public health, which allows the government to impose restrictions without declaring a state of emergency for another six months.

Dimitri Khundadze, the Chairperson of the Health Committee, stated the relevant initiative at a briefing in the Parliament.

According to Khundadze, the extension of the law is "vital for the country and society."

"The current epidemic situation confirms that state intervention and the imposition of certain restrictions were timely and relevant. These effective steps were available to the government because of the Law on Public Health, the validity of which, as you remember, was set for January. This period expires in a few days, after which it will not be easy to manage the process without it. With all this in mind, we are ratifying a bill that would extend the validity of the Public Health Act by six months," Khundadze said.

According to Khundadze, the extension of the law does not mean that the restrictions will remain in force for the next six months or will be tightened.
