The Patriarchate of Georgia is discussing the issue of suicide, with ecclesiastic servants, psychologists, and the representatives of sector committees, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Justice, patrol police, media outlets, and different NGOs attending the meeting.
"Suicide rate is alarmingly increasing in Georgia, and the corresponding statistics is concerning. In the last decade, nearly a tenfold increase has been detected in the number of people taking their own lives. We do think about this issue, and it hurts a lot. Perhaps, this is a natural consequence because the human soul is getting infected; it is being killed by the promotion of material wealth, consumerism, immorality, debauchery, godlessness, fake ideals, gambling, and homosexuality. The soul cannot stand all this and gets sad and depressed, and lots of people commit suicide. We do think about this and plan to found a center, together with the patriarchate, in which different specialists will put their heads together to resolve this issue," Reverend Shio declared.
