Tengiz Tsertsvadze asks public not to hide symptoms

Tengiz Tsertsvadze, the head of Tbilisi's infectious diseases, Aids and immunology research centre, asks citizens showing even mild respiratory symptoms to undergo coronavirus testing. Tsertsvadze said that timely testing is vitally important.

"Test results will arrive in 48 hours at the latest. No one may hide the symptoms. I am calling on everyone to avoid doing this. This is the worst thing that can happen in the country. There have been some cases when citizens hid their symptoms and infected others before getting treatment," Tsertsvadze said in his televised remark with Rustavi 2.

Georgia recorded 680 new cases of the novel virus in the past 24 hours to bring the total tally to 13,521. The country's death toll is now at 109, with seven dying recently. A total of 7,159 citizens have so far recovered.

Georgia reported its first COVID-19 case on 26 February 2020. The WHO labeled the virus a pandemic on 11 March 2020. Its outbreak started in China in December of 2019. China confirmed it was contagious on 21 January and declared quarantine in its two cities.
