"The health sector has seen an overload. Naturally, there were some problems, but, fortunately, the peak has passed," Tengiz Tsertsvadze, Director General of the Tbilisi Center for Infectious Pathologies and AIDS, stated.

He says the number of new coronavirus cases in Georgia has dropped by 3-4 times.

"While earlier there were about 5,000 cases a day, now it is from 1,000 to 2,000. There were fears that the weekly lift of restrictions before the New Year could lead to the so-called "third wave.'' It has been 10-12 days since these restrictions lifted, and we see no increase.

It seems that on the eve of the New Year, the population strictly adhered to the rules than before.

I do not know when the restrictions are lifted, but they will be. But the regulations should remain," Tsertsvadze told Georgia's Public Broadcaster.

He reiterated the regulations to be inevitably followed by people.
