Tornike Mamaladze: They have decided not to let my brother out of prison alive

Giorgi Mamaladze's brother holds a rally in front of the Patriarchate while the Synod session is taking place.

According to Tornike Mamaladze, his brother has been a prisoner of Patriarch and Bidzina Ivanishvili for four years. As Mamaladze told report.ge, the dean's health condition is severe.

According to him, the Patriarchate and the government have decided not to release Giorgi Mamaladze alive.

"I came to remind these people that four years have passed since my brother is the prisoner of the Patriarch and Ivanishvili. I call on these people, who are now in the Synod, to form a commission promised three years ago and discuss the cyanide case issue once and for all. But they do not form a commission because they know that the traces will lead to the government and the Patriarchate's high-ranking officials.

My brother is paralyzed, his right limbs have been paralyzed, he is not given any treatment or medication because the government and the Patriarchate have decided not to let my brother out of prison alive," Tornike Mamaladze said.

Giorgi Mamaladze was arrested on February 10, 2017, at Tbilisi Airport on charges of preparing a murder. He was flying to Berlin to visit Ilia II, where the patriarch was being prepared for surgery.

According to the prosecutor's office, Father Giorgi Mamaladze asked journalist Irakli Mamaladze for help in finding cyanide, which should have been used to poison a high-ranking clergyman in Berlin.

The dean himself does not plead guilty. Giorgi Mamaladze is in the 8th penitentiary institution.

The Synod session at the Patriarchate is underway at the moment.
